As the largest gold producer in the state of Victoria, the Fosterville mine is a high-grade, low-cost underground gold mine, located 20 km from the city of Bendigo. The mine was established in 1894 and continued operations until 1905. The current Fosterville mine started operations in 2005 and has become one of the worlds richest mines and  employing around 600 people.
