Maldon Folk Festival

On Sunday 30 October 2016 Phoenix FM broadcast live for six hours from the Maldon Folk Festival.   We had a direct line from the main stage and were able to broadcast the performances as they were happening as well as interviewing several of the artists themselves including Greg Champion.

Weatherwise the day started out very nicely although a little windy but as the day wore on it
got a bit scary as the day went along with the temperature dropping and the wind threatening to blow everyone away but it did not deter our intrepid crew. Outside Broadcast Team comprised Max Primmer, Simon Dillon, Peter Williams and Craig Whan.

Phoenix FM broadcast live for five hours from the Murran Dhelk Indigenous Football Netball Carnival on Sunday 16 October 2016. It was very cold and the windy sometimes almost blew us away but we persevered and had a lovely time.

Phoenix FM members  who took part on the day were Bill Whitbread, Anne Conway, Sue Tuitupou, Peter Williams, Craig Whan, Tanya Jones and Skye Anderson. We also gained a new young presenter as the afternoon went on - Izzy Tuitupou! Izzy, despite his tender years was not shy either on or off the microphone and it was he who approached Western Bulldogs player Jake Stringer and brought him over for an interview. The rest of us were too shy to do that.

In 1993, I completed a Bachelor of Arts (Media Studies) degree at Edith Cowan University in Perth.  During my studies, I learnt on-air and production skills at 6RPH Information Radio in Perth.  During my time at Information Radio, I met wonderful people and hosted the sports show along with my twin sister until 1994.

From 1993-1997, I ventured into Radio 6NR in Perth and further learnt reel to reel production skills and did the graveyard shift on many occasions.
The other shows at Radio 6NR include;
Host/Producer – Women’s Cricket Show
Co-Producer – Good Afternoon Magazine
Panel Operator – Lawn Bowl’s Show
Host – Graveyard shift

2003-2009 – Host/Producer (with my twin sister) – The Sport’s Lounge on JOY Melbourne 94.9FM.  The show won the CBAA Sports Broadcasting award in 2008.
I also hosted the Breakfast Bar (on occasions) and the Drive time shift at JOY Melbourne 94.9FM.

2009 -2015 – Sports phone correspondent (as I moved back to Perth at that stage) – Saturday Morning Magazine on JOY Melbourne 94.9FM.

My sporting passion started at a very early age and I feel privileged that I am able to extend my love for sport in broadcasting.

The most exciting aspect of radio is engaging part of an audience who normally wouldn’t be into sport but still loves to listen to ‘Sportsvox’.  Bendigo is an exciting sporting region and ‘Sportsvox’ is here to engage the community and be the ‘Voice of the Sporting Community’

Mick Griffin

Mick Griffin began hosting the program ``Rock Bottom`` at Phoenix FM on Boxing Day 2011.
``Rock Bottom`` is without a doubt  one of the loudest programs on Central Victorian airwaves, playing as it does a wide ranging mix of Hard Rock, Punk, Sleaze, Garage and Stoner Rock…The brief for ``Rock Bottom``, which airs Sundays 7.00 to 10.00PM, has always been that of PURE ROCK & ROLL!

Mick also hosts  ``Queens of Noize`` every Thursday evening  10.00PM to Midnight, a program dedicated to airing the very best, and very loudest  in female and female fronted Rock acts from all over the world…FEMALE FUELLED ROCK & ROLL!

Both of these programs proudly boast a large quotient of music from independent acts the world over.
Bitten by the Rock & Roll bug at an early age and ingrained with a life-long restless and insatiable appetite for fresh new music (of the loud variety), Mick has been a constant presence on the live music scene for many years as a promoter, photographer, biographer and interviewer. The best way to sum Mick up is that of an all round Rock & Roll carnival barker

Alan Boromeo's Farewell to Bendigo Exhibition

7/8/2016

Picture
Phoenix FM has a mega-fundraiser coming up in September – Alan Boromeo’s Farewell to Bendigo Art Exhibition.

Alan Boromeo is a very popular Phoenix FM announcer and presents Diamantina Dreaming each Sunday morning. Sadly this will come to an end on 28 August as Alan prepares to leave Bendigo and relocate to Geelong. This exhibition celebrates Alan’s contribution to Phoenix FM and of course his talent as an artist/sculptor.

Well worth the trip out to Lockwood to have a look at the oil paintings, prings and metal sculptures. Entry is by donation which, of course goes to Phoenix FM as does the raffle money and the sausage sizzle money.

The Exhibition will be opened at 6.30pm at Bill’s Shed – 1023 Calder Alt Hwy, Lockwood on Friday September 2 and everyone is welcome but bookings are requested for catering purposes.
Please ring 5435 3674 or send an email to ab@australianironart.com if you would like to confirm your attendance.

The exhibition will run through to Sunday 11 September. It will be closed on weekdays except for where there are bookings so mostly we are looking at the two weekends. To add to our fundraising Phoenix FM is running two sausage sizzles – one on Sunday 4 September and the other on Sunday 11 September at Bill’s Shed. We would appreciate some volunteers for this – we will run the sausage sizzles from 11.00am till 2.00pm on each occasion.

The Red Hat ladies visited Phoenix FM on Friday 15 April 2016. Whilst there they took a tour of our premises and saw Community Radio in action as well as being told "The Phoenix Story" from our earliest times of struggle to the present. Julien Ringuede was presenting his Classical Music Program and found himself totally inundated in the studio and he was wonderful and joined in the fun. The Red Hat Ladies also met Jason Spowarth and David Michaels and Ken Jones dropped in for a little while to renew old acquaintance! A big thanks to Max Primmer who helped out a lot and even did the dishes! Bill Whitbread, our Vice President was also there and shared some Phoenix FM stories.

Phoenix FM did a live broadcast from Bendigo All Breeds Goat Expo and it was very enjoyable. We even interviewed some of the goats as the pictures will show! Seriously though there was a lot of very interesting information provided by the people we interviewed. A very enjoyable way to put in the morning - broadcast went from 10.00am to 12.00 noon.

These photographs were taken on Easter Sunday 2016 and shows Phoenix FM's entry into the Gala Parade. Once again Phoenix was very well received by the public who clapped and sang along to our music. We also had the support of the "Whovian" group who also had a Dalek. Our Dalek, Marvin is becoming very well known and people were calling to him by name fro the crowd
